Dogberry Collections Traditional Board & Batten Exterior Shutters are solid Cedar shutters with a classic vertical board and crossbar batten design, sold in pairs, available in heights from 36″ to 84″, and available in a range of finishes. It's the most traditional shutter profile in our cedar lineup.
Board and batten shutters are the oldest and most recognized shutter style in American architecture - vertical boards held together by horizontal battens, a construction method used on farmhouses, colonial homes, and cottages for centuries. The Dogberry Collections Traditional Board & Batten Shutters revive that timeless design in solid Cedar, with a hand-applied finish and a range of color choices. Whether you're restoring the look of a 1920s craftsman, replacing worn wood window shutters, or adding traditional character to new construction, these shutters do the work.

Not sure which finish is right for your siding? Our shutter color and stain guide matches finishes to white, gray, beige, and dark exteriors, and our brick and black house color guide covers those pairings specifically. Prefer to pick your own color? Order Unfinished and see our guide to painting wood shutters.
Ordering Unfinished isn't just the more affordable option (though it is a little less per pair) — it's how you get an exact match instead of a close one. Bring a paint chip from your siding, trim, or front door to any hardware store and have them custom-mix a stain or exterior paint to match precisely, rather than choosing the closest of our standard color options.
It's also the only option if you're matching an existing stain elsewhere on your property — a deck, a front door, or trim that was custom-colored years ago and isn't one of our standard finishes.
Not sure where to start? Our guide to painting wood shutters walks through the full process, and our color and stain guide can help you land on the right undertone even before you visit the store.

Is board and batten the right choice for a historic home?
Yes. Board and batten is the oldest documented shutter style in American residential architecture, which makes it the most period-accurate choice for colonial, farmhouse, and early craftsman homes specifically.
Can I mix finishes across the front of my house?
Most homeowners use one finish throughout for a cohesive look, but ordering Unfinished and painting to match an existing trim or door color is common and works well if you're not matching one of our standard finishes.
Do these need to be re-stained over time?
Cedar holds finish longer than most exterior woods, but like any exterior wood product, expect to refresh the stain or paint every 5-7 years depending on sun and weather exposure in your climate.
Mount directly to siding on either side of the window with the included hardware - these are DIY shutters designed to go up in an afternoon with just a drill and a level. See our full exterior shutter installation guide for wood siding, brick, and stucco.
