Description
Ops-Core FAST XP Gen 2 Helmet System: Stops .44 Magnum & 9mm with The Ultimate Upgrade in Stability & Comfort
- The Ops-Core FAST XP Gen 2 Helmet System is a specialized ballistic platform engineered for law enforcement and high-threat operations. This system integrates a high-cut shell with advanced stability features to support heavy night vision and communication gear during extended missions. It is fully certified to NIJ Level IIIA and HG2 standards, delivering verified protection against handgun threats and fragmentation for professionals in the field.
- Stops .44 Magnum & 9mm Rounds with NIJ Level IIIA & HG2 Armor: This helmet is tested to stop powerful handgun ammunition—including .44 Magnum at 1,400 feet per second—without failing. The advanced HG2 shell rating ensures it absorbs the hit to minimize blunt force trauma, keeping you in the fight even after an impact.
- Eliminates Helmet Wobble using the Lockdown™ Liner System: You can run heavy night vision goggles without your helmet shifting or sliding over your eyes. The interior liner locks onto your head using a conformable nape pad, ensuring your gear stays perfectly steady while you run or climb.
- Prevents Cable Snags with Integrated PowerPath™ ARC Rails: The side rails feature a hidden channel that routes your communication cables behind the rail rather than hanging loose. This protects your wires from getting caught on branches or doorways while keeping your setup clean and professional.
- Reduces Neck Strain via Balanced Gen 2 Weight Distribution: Even though it offers heavy-duty protection, this system is balanced to feel lighter on your head. The new center-of-gravity design prevents the "front-heavy" droop common with older helmets, allowing you to wear it for 8+ hours without fatigue.
Ops Core FAST XP Review
What are some common accessories to add to the FAST XP helmet?
System Balancing & Communications for the Opscore FAST XP
- Ops-Core AMP Communication Headset: This headset integrates directly with your helmet to provide 3D Hear-Through Technology, allowing you to hear ambient sounds like footsteps while instantly blocking gunshot noise. It connects seamlessly to the helmet's rails for a low-profile fit.
- Ops-Core AMP Helmet Rail Mount Kit with Vent Mode: This mount attaches your AMP headset to the rear of the ARC rails, balancing the helmet's weight by counteracting front-mounted night vision. The "Vent Mode" allows you to pop the earcups open to cool off without removing the helmet.
Ballistic & Environmental Upgrades
- Ops-Core Step-In Visor: A low-profile protective lens that clips into the helmet's receiver, providing ballistic eye protection that works perfectly with night vision goggles. It eliminates the need for separate safety glasses that can dig into your temples.
- Ops-Core FAST Ballistic Mandible: This face shield snaps onto the helmet to provide NIJ Level IIIA protection for your jaw and mouth. It is ideal for turret gunners or high-threat entries where fragmentation and debris are major risks.
- Ops-Core SOTR (Special Operations Tactical Respirator): A half-mask respirator designed to fit perfectly under the Ops Core FAST XP ballistic helmet mandible or visor. It protects you from lead dust, breach fumes, and other airborne particulates during intense operations.
Ops-Core FAST XP Helmet System Features & Specifications
The Ops-Core FAST XP Gen 2 Helmet is the definitive ballistic solution for law enforcement and high-threat operators who refuse to compromise on stability. While many helmets offer protection, the new Ops-Core FAST XP Helmet System integrates the advanced HG2 shell technology to stop .44 Magnum threats with significantly reduced backface deformation. Its true combat advantage lies in the lockdown architecture: by combining the Vented Lux Liner with the Head-Loc Flex retention system, this XP helmet creates a stable, shake-free platform for heavy night vision and communications gear, eliminating the fatigue and wobble inherent in the legacy Ops-Core FAST XP.
Key Features
- Stops .44 Magnum & 9mm (NIJ Level IIIA + HG2): The hybrid composite shell is certified to stop powerful handgun rounds—including .44 Mag at 1,400 ft/s—while minimizing blunt force trauma to keep you in the fight.
- Locks Gear in Place (Lockdown™ Liner): A highly conformable nape pad and adjustable comfort pads grip your head securely, preventing your night vision goggles from shifting or drooping during movement.
- Balances Weight for All-Day Wear: The FAST XP 2 architecture optimizes the center of gravity to reduce neck strain, making the system feel lighter and more balanced during 8+ hour missions.
- Protects Cables with PowerPath™ Rails: Integrated channels route your communication wires behind the rail, keeping them snag-free and protected from environmental damage.
- Universal Accessory Mounting: The lightweight Modular Bungee Shroud (MBS) creates a snag-free, low-profile interface for securely mounting almost any night vision or thermal device.

Product FAQs
What is the "HG2" Standard and how is it different from Level IIIA?
HG2 is the new NIJ standard that modernizes the older Level IIIA rating. While both ratings certify that the FAST XP Helmet System stops .44 Magnum and 9mm rounds, HG2 is stricter. It requires the helmet to pass tougher tests for Backface Deformation (how much the shell dents inward). This means the new FAST XP helmet system doesn't just catch the bullet—it is scientifically proven to reduce the blunt force impact to your head better than older helmets.
What sizes are available for the Ops Core FAST XP 2 helmet system?
The helmet comes in four sizes to fit different head shapes:
- Medium: Fits head circumference 20.8" – 22.0"
- Large: Fits head circumference 22.0" – 23.2"
- X-Large: Fits head circumference 23.2" – 24.4"
- XX-Large: Fits head circumference 24.4" – 25.6"
What is the Head-Loc Flex retention system, and why does it benefit me?
The Head-Loc Flex is the strap system that holds the helmet on your head. The "Flex" part means it has a special chin cup that you can adjust. You can wear it under your chin like a normal strap, or protectively over your chin for a tighter fit. It keeps the helmet from wobbling when you run.
Why is the PowerPath ARC™ Rail system a big deal?
Standard rails just let you clip things on. The PowerPath rails are different because they have a hidden tunnel behind them. You can run wires from your battery pack or headset through this tunnel. This keeps your cables organized and stops them from getting snagged on branches or doorways.
What is the difference between High Cut and Mid Cut shells?
- High Cut: The sides of the helmet are cut higher above the ears. This is best if you wear large communication headsets or need to hear your surroundings clearly. It is the most popular choice for modern operators.
- Mid Cut: The shell comes down lower over the ears. This offers more ballistic coverage (more protection) but can be harder to wear with some large headsets. Choose this if maximum protection is your main goal.
Can I take this helmet out of the country?
No. This helmet is an ITAR/EAR-controlled item. It is illegal to take, ship, or sell this helmet outside of the United States without strict permission from the U.S. Government.
Will my current Night Vision mount fit this helmet?
Yes. The helmet comes with the Modular Bungee Shroud (MBS). It is designed to fit standard universal night vision mounts (like the Wilcox G24) securely without any wobble.
What is the difference between the legacy Ops Core XP and the Ops Core FAST XP 2.0?
The biggest upgrade in this new system is stability. The old Opscore XP was tough, but the new Ops Core FAST XP 2 uses the Lockdown™ Liner and HG2 shell technology. This means the Ops-Core FAST XP balances better, wobbles less under night vision, and offers reduced blunt force trauma compared to the older model.
